Not according to Harry of Brunely.

Especially when you can gobble it up in the $16’s.

…and even more so when it comes with impeccable balance by way of thick/deeply-rooted organically farmed vines in one of the most sought-after domaines in the appellation.

50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan, 5% Cinsault and raised for a year-and-a-half in concrete tanks, Domaine Brunely’s 2023 ‘Raphael’ release is a delicious and classically styled example of the category:

“This wine presents a fresh, concentrated nose of pure black cherry, plum, saffron, and delicate black licorice, exuding both vibrancy and depth. Framed by a subtle touch of oak spice, the palate is beautifully lifted, allowing its dark fruit to shine against a refined backdrop of soft earth, flinty minerality, and a whisper of saline. “The 2023 Vacqueyras Cuvée Raphael is a rich, concentrated, impressive effort offering pure black cherry and darker raspberry fruit as well as some peppery, graphite, and mineral nuances. I love its purity, and this medium to full-bodied, concentrated barrel sample should have a solid 10-12 years of prime drinking. A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest equal doses of Carignan and Cinsault, it was aged 12 to 18 months in concrete tanks. 90-92 points.” – Jeb Dunnuck 4/25
