Hi Everyone,
We were out on a family walk the other night and my 12-year-old son asks a question: “Dad why are all of the neighbors’ recycle bins filled with CHARDONNAY – Is that a grape, or a region, or a brand?”
Never one to waste a teachable moment, I give the kid the scoop on buttery, oaky domestic Chardonnay and America’s infallible love for it. Before we had a chance to delve into the merits of Chablis, the kid interrupts, “Ok – If this domestic stuff is THAT popular Dad, why is it never on your sample table, and does this mean that you never put it on those email offers that you type up after lunch on weekdays?”
…this kid is smart, and he has a point – If all restaurants and retailers still buy and sell a ton of domestic Chardonnay, maybe we are letting you down by almost never putting any in these offers?
Out came the phone.
Time to call Mr. Oliveira.
Oliveira picks up, and he has a tranche of what he claims will be our best opportunity ever in the category – The 91-point, deep-fruited, 2020 “Fly By” release from Trevor Sheehan:
“This Chardonnay incorporates layers of pronounced flavors and aromas with an elevated acidity that means freshness from start to finish. Enjoy notes of lemon, lime, juicy green pear, apple blossom, baby’s breath, vanilla, nutmeg, matchstick flint and petrol. 91 points. (reviewed at $18).” – Wine Enthusiast
Yes – That bit about freshness is welcome and spot-on.
When it comes from Mr. Oliveira, the pricing is always low.
How is a price in the $11’s today?
…hopefully the kid will notice bottles of this in the bins across the Bay in a few weeks time. 😉
Thanks again for the support!
