Any conversation involving Rasteau will invariably include mention of Domaine Fond Croze. This small family estate been on a serious roll over the last decade, releasing some of the most critically acclaimed, satisfying examples of old-vine Grenache in the appellation.

Today’s example, Fond Croze’s classic cuvee, is fermented and aged in large neutral barrel and made up of mostly Grenache with a bit of Mourvedre and Syrah for added backbone, all farmed organically from old head-trained vines:

“Not yet bottled, the 2020 Rasteau gives up lots of Bing cherry, spice, and exotic flower notes to go with a fresh, yet ripe, concentrated, medium to full-bodied style on the palate. It picks up more spice and sandalwood notes with time in the glass, and it should easily be an outstanding wine. The blend is 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre. 90-92 points.
